Hampton University Sports Performance
Mission Statement
The mission of Hampton University Sports Performance is to provide student-athletes with the tools to develop and enhance athletic capabilities while decreasing the occurrence of injury.
Program ObjectivesÂ
The training philosophy of Hampton University Strength and Conditioning is to teach athletes how to apply force rapidly at high velocities using speed and strength training while maximizing their potential through the development of character, work ethic, and self- discipline.
Training Methods
The HU Strength and Conditioning staff utilizes a variety of ground based free weight programs that teach athletes proprioception and awareness of their bodies. Team strength programming is sport specific in design with individual modifications to highlight areas of improvement.
- Mobility:Athletes complete individual fundamental movement evaluation to determine level of competency and identify areas of deficient mobility. This approach allows coaches to improve an athlete's functional mobility, stability, strength, and neuromuscular control imbalances to aid in injury prevention.
Â
- Â Olympic Lifts:Â Coaches emphasize proper form and technique while athletes are introduced to multi-joint multi-muscle coordinated movements designed to increase strength and power.
- Â Speed & Agility:Athletes complete speed and agility training that incorporates competition movements including acceleration development, linear speed, change of direction, and angular velocity.
