HAMPTON, Va. – The Pirates held their second practice in shoulder pads yesterday and head coach Donavon Rose was impressed with what he saw.
“The skilled players looked good and I was happy with what I saw,” said Rose. “We are executing very well at the wide receiver and defensive back position so we are getting there slowly but surely.”
The heat still continues to be a minor issue for the Pirates as they were practicing in more gear yesterday. Although yesterday's temperature was high, the humidity was not as bad as in previous days.
“The heat will continue to be an issue even when the season starts, so there is not much that we can do about that,” stated Rose. “We have to ensure that the players are well hydrated and our training staff is doing an outstanding job of making sure that we are good in that area.”
The Pirates will be back on the field this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. with a better temperature as it is expected to be in the mid 80's today.
The Pirates will hold their annual Meet the Pirates/Football Clinic on Saturday, August 13, starting at 12:45 p.m. on the campus of Hampton University.
