GIBSON, ALPICHI EARN MEAC WEEKLY HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton University junior linebacker Lyndell Gibson was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman Kory Alpichi was named Offensive Lineman of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Gibson (Virginia Beach, Va.), a Virginia Tech transfer, was huge in the Pirates' 42-6 rout of Delaware State on Saturday at Armstrong Stadium. He had a team-high 13 tackles, including three for a loss of eight yards, while also breaking up two passes and pulling in two interceptions.

He totaled 66 yards in returns on those picks, including a 43-yard touchdown return late in the fourth quarter against the Hornets.

Gibson was also named Hampton University Athlete of the Week for his efforts.

Alpichi (Winchester, Calif.) posted five pancake blocks and graded out at 92 percent as he aided Hampton to 414 yards of total offense, including 252 yards on the ground.

Bethune-Cookman's David Blackwell was named MEAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Marcell Coke of Norfolk State was named Rookie of the Week. Norfolk State's Ryan Estep earned MEAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
