PIRATES TO HOLD FIRST FOOTBALL PRACTICE TUESDAY

Hampton, Va. – The Hampton Pirates football team is set to begin their first practice of the 2010 preseason on Tuesday afternoon at 3 pm at the practice field behind Armstrong Stadium.

Pirates Head Coach Don Rose and staff welcomed 87 players to camp on this past Thursday. Hampton begins this preseason with one goal on their mind, which is to get back to the ways that things once were in Pirate Nation. The Pirates will look to improve upon a mark of 5-6 from last season, this as they welcome back some key players from last year's team.

The team will start off Tuesday with a string of offensive and defensive meetings followed by the kick-off of their first practice with a walk-thru to begin at 3 p.m. on the practice field. The Pirates will keep this schedule until they begin two-a-days on Friday, August 13.

The Pirates will hold their first scrimmage on Saturday, August 21, which has been slated as “Meet the Pirates Day” and their second scrimmage on Thursday, August 26, which will be the annual Blue and White game. Both games will be held at Armstrong Stadium on the campus of Hampton University.

All practice sessions are open to the media and public, but all times and practices are subject to change due to weather or field conditions. Contact the Office of Sports Information at 757-727-5811 or maurice.williams@hamptonu.edu to ensure that there have not been any schedule changes prior to arrival.
