2010-11 Lady Pirates tennis schedule

HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University men's and women's tennis teams, under the direction of legendary coach Dr. Robert Screen, released their 2010-11 schedule on Tuesday, a slate that includes four home matches.

The Pirates and Lady Pirates will head to Atlanta, Ga. on Sept. 23-26 for the HBCU Nationals, a bracket-style tournament with no team results. Na-Hyun Baek won the women's A Bracket singles title in last year's HBCU Nationals, while also winning the women's doubles title in the A Bracket alongside junior Jovanna Sangria.

Edson Alves gave the Pirates their best finish in that tournament, coming in second in the men's singles C Bracket.

Hampton will close the fall by competing in the Hampton Roads Collegiate in Newport News, Va. on Oct. 8-10.

The Pirates and Lady Pirates will open the 2011 portion of the schedule on Jan. 15 against Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C., before heading to the Neilson-Screen Tennis Stadium for their first home match of the season Feb. 4 against Norfolk State. From there, both teams will head to Statesboro, Ga. on Feb. 13 to take on Georgia Southern and to Buies Creek, N.C. on Feb. 19 to face Campbell.

March 7-8 will see the Pirates and Lady Pirates in Sumter, S.C. for a series of matches. Both teams will face Florida A&M and defending MEAC champion South Carolina State on March 7, before taking on North Carolina Central on March 8.

Both teams will take on Coppin State to open conference play in Baltimore, Md. on March 18, before the they return to Hampton to take on Delaware State on March 27. The Pirates and Lady Pirates will then play host to Howard on April 2 and Morgan State on April 3, before heading to Princess Anne, Md. to face Maryland-Eastern Shore on April 9.

The 2011 MEAC Tennis Championships will be held April 15-17 in Raleigh, N.C.
