HAMPTON, Va. – Former Hampton University basketball standout Jacqueline “Jackie” Dolberry will be among eight people to be inducted into the Hampton Roads African-American Sports Hall of Fame on Nov. 6.
Dolberry is the Lady Pirates' all-time leading scorer with 2,727 career points, averaging 21.6 points per game in her four-year career. She was a member of the Lady Pirates team that won the Division II national championship in 1988.
Dolberry, a three-time All-CIAA selection and the 1989 CIAA Player of the Year, also holds the school record for most points in a game, tallying 52 against North Carolina Central on Feb. 16, 1989, and she made a school-record 1,043 field goals in her career. Her career .483 field goal percentage (1,043-for-2,161) is the ninth-best in school history.
She also holds school records in 3-point field goal made (274), 3-point field goal attempted (739) and 3-point field goal percentage (.371).
Dolberry scored 27 points on 9-for-17 shooting in the 1988 NCAA Division II title game against West Texas A&M, while also pulling down eight rebounds.
She was also an inaugural inductee into the Hampton University Athletics Hall of Fame, which was founded in 2009.
Among the other inductees are: Boo Williams, Norfolk State athletic director Marty Miller, former NFL quarterback Aaron Brooks, former Major League pitcher Wayne Gomes, college basketball official Larry Rose, Wilson Washington and Calvert “Cal” Davidson.
