HAMPTON TRACK GEARING UP FOR NCAA EAST REGIONAL

GREENSBORO, N.C. –
Four members of the Hampton University men's track & field team and five members of the women's track & field team will head to the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T on Thursday, Friday and Saturday to compete in the 2010 NCAA Division I East Regional.

The Pirates will compete in four events, while the Lady Pirates will take part in a combined eight events.

Junior Predist Walker (Suffolk, Va.) will compete in the 110-meter hurdles. Walker won the MEAC title in that event on May 8, running a season-best 13.83.

Junior Aaron Anderson (Fort Washington, Md.) and sophomore Reggie Dixon (Plainfield, N.J.) will each compete in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, while also joining Walker and junior Devon Brown (Laurel, Md.) in the 4x100-meter relay.

That foursome won the MEAC title in the 4x100-meter relay with a school- and meet-record 39.71.

Senior Francena McCorory (Hampton, Va.) will begin her quest to add an NCAA outdoor title to her two NCAA indoor titles, competing in the 400-meter dash this weekend. McCorory won the MEAC title in the 400-meter dash with a 53.39.

McCorory, who won the NCAA indoor title in March with an American-record 50.54, will also be on the 4x400-meter relay team. Junior Leah Richmond (Long Beach, Calif.) will also be the relay squad.

Junior Racquel Vassell (Irvington, N.J.), the Most Outstanding Runner from the MEAC Outdoor Championships, will compete in the 100-meter hurdles, long jump and 200-meter dash on top of participating in the 4x400-meter relay.

Senior Petrice Richards (Manchester, Jamaica), who won the MEAC title in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, will compete in both races.

Sophomore Claudia Calder (Kingston, Jamaica), who won the MEAC title in the heptathlon earlier this month with a school-record 4,904 points, will compete in the high jump, 400-meter hurdles and 4x400-meter relay.

The 2010 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore. on June 9-12.
