Alabama A&M Golf Classic results
HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University women's golf team has opened the spring 2010 season with a pair of tournament wins, taking both the Winston-Salem State Spring Golf Challenge and the Alabama A&M Golf Classic.
The Lady Pirates shot a 108-over 684 (343-341) to take the Winston-Salem State Spring Golf Challenge at the Winston Lake Golf Course on March 20-21, sweeping the top three individual spots.
Iman Ellis (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) won the individual title after shooting a 17-over 161 (79-82), while Dionne West (Springdale, Md.) fired a 26-over 170 (86-84) to finish second and Kayla Williams (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) came in third with a 27-over 171 (88-83). Jessi Mitchell (Fayetteville, Ga.) finished fifth with a 40-over 184 (90-94), and Nicole West (Springdale, Md.) fired a 42-over 186 (94-92) to finish 6th.
Ellis' first-round 79 was the lowest of the tournament.
The Lady Pirates took the Alabama A&M Golf Classic at the Goose Pond Golf Course on March 29-30, firing a 41-over 617 (316-301).
Ellis won the individual crown in this tournament as well, finishing 6-over with a 150 (79-71) and becoming the only player to shoot under par with her second-round 71. Williams shot an 11-over 155 (80-75) to finish second, while Dionne West and Nicole West tied for third at 12-over 156; Dionne went 79-77, while Nicole shot 78-78.
Sydnee Mack helped Hampton sweep the top five spots, finishing fifth with a 20-over 164 (84-80).
The Lady Pirates will return to action Sunday through Tuesday, when they head to Hartford, Conn. for the University of Hartford Invitational at the Rockledge Golf Course.
