WHITE LAKE, N.C. – The Hampton University men's golf team finished 14th at the Carolina Sands Intercollegiate with a 92-over 668 (337-331) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Carolina Sands Golf Course.
Javier Lopez (Chicago, Ill.) finished 79th to lead the Pirates, firing a 17-over 161 (80-81), while
Geoffrey Napper fired a 19-over 163 (81-82) to finish 80th.
Sidney Fields (Decatur, Ga.) finished 85th with a 26-over 170 (87-83), and
Curtis Fearrington fired a 30-over 174 (89-85) to finish 86th.
Jamal Horne finished 87th with a 35-over 179 (93-86).
Coker College won the team title with a 10-under 566 (281-285), while Christopher Marsh took the individual crown with a 4-under 140 (71-69).
The Pirates also finished sixth in the Alabama A&M Golf Classic, held March 29-30 at the Goose Pond Colony Resort, with a 106-over 682 (341-341).
Fearrington (Attica, N.Y.) led Hampton with a 19-over 163 (80-83) to finish in a tie for 18th.
Napper (Bowie, Md.) finished tied for 24th after firing a 25-over 169 (81-88), and Fields tied for 26th with a 26-over 170 (89-81). Lopez shot a 36-over 180 (91-89) to finish 30th.
Tennessee State won the team title with a 25-over 601 (304-297), while Ryan Smith won the individual crown in a playoff after shooting a 3-over 147 (76-71).
