WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Hampton University sailing team finished third in the South Spring Qualifier hosted by the College of William & Mary on Saturday and Sunday.

By virtue of their third-place finish, the Pirates qualified for the America Trophy.

Hampton finished with 80 points, 11 points behind second-place George Washington. Virginia won the regatta with 43 points. Winds were light but regular throughout the weekend, and competitors raced under sunny skies both days.

The America Trophy will be held at Cornell University on April 17-18. The MAISA champion will be crowned that weekend, and the top eight teams at the America Trophy will qualify for the national meet.

The Pirates will return to action this weekend, when they head back to Williamsburg, Va. for the William & Mary 2-on-2 Regatta on Saturday and Sunday.
