GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Hampton University women's bowling team had a rough weekend in the MEAC Championships, held Friday through Sunday at the Gate City Lanes.
On Friday, The Lady Pirates were defeated by No. 18 Florida A&M 806-836, No. 5 Delaware State 795-900, No. 20 Morgan State 821-863, and No. 1 Maryland-Eastern Shore 769-908.
On Saturday in baker total pinfall action, the Lady Pirates lost five matches. Hampton lost to South Carolina State 645-687, Bethune-Cookman 641-647, No. 19 Norfolk State 683-734, FAMU 653-703 and Delaware State 673-786.
Later in the day, the Lady Pirates won their first match, beating Bethune Cookman 4-2; however, they lost to Norfolk State 1-4 and South Carolina State 2-4.
Jazzminn Richey-Obey and
Ashley Hampton were ranked in the top sixty in the tournament. Richey Obey was 15
th with a total pinfall of 666 and an average of 166.5 pins per match. Hampton was ranked 20
th with a total pinfall of 657, and she averaged 164.2 per match.
Delaware State defeated Maryland-Eastern Shore 4-3 on Sunday to take the 2010 MEAC title and the automatic NCAA bid that goes with it.
