MEN’S GOLF FINISHES FIFTH IN WSSU CHALLENGE

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –
The Hampton University men's golf team finished fifth out of five teams in the Winston-Salem State Spring Golf Challenge, held Saturday and Sunday at the par-71 Winston Lake Golf Course, shooting a 142-over 710 (366-344).

Sidney Fields (Decatur, Ga.) led the Pirates, finishing 21st with a 30-over 172 (83-89). Freshman Curtis Fearrington (Attica, N.Y.) shot a 32-over 174 (91-83) to finish 23rd; Fearrington and Fields each shot the team-low round of 83 – Fields on Saturday and Fearrington on Sunday.

Javier Lopez (Chicago, Ill.) fired a 37-over 179 (95-84) to finish 24th, while Geoffrey Napper (Bowie, Md.) finished 26th with a 44-over 186 (98-88). Jamal Horne came in 29th after shooting a 50-over 192 (97-95).

High Point University won the team title with a 42-over 610 (303-307). Curtis Brotherton of High Point topped the leaderboard after shooting a 1-over 143 (70-73). His first-round 70 tied with Parker Lewis of Brevard for the best round of the weekend.

The Pirates will return to action this weekend, when they head to Scottsboro, Ala. on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday for the Alabama A&M Golf Classic.
