READING, Pa. -- The Hampton University women’s bowling team won five matches this past weekend at the Golden Bear Invitational, hosted by Kutztown University on Saturday and Sunday.
The Lady Pirates went 2-4 in team play on Saturday. The team lost the first two matches to Florida A&M and Valparaiso 834-913 and 805-1,041. They won the third match against Delaware State 906-881; however, the Lady Pirates lost their fourth match to Stephen F. Austin 835-959. The Lady Pirates closed out team play by winning against Coppin State 830-709 and losing to SUNY-IT 871-890.
Dara Martin led the team in total pinfall with 1,096 pins, followed by Jamie Zarnick with a total pinfall of 1,072. Brittani Reynolds bowled her season-high in her fifth game with a score of 193, and Martin bowled her season-high with a 230 in the second game.
As a team, Hampton’s total pinfall was 5,081 on Saturday, averaging 141.1 per game.
On Sunday, the Lady Pirates went 3-6 in combined Baker action. The Lady Pirates beat Southern 680-624 and SUNY-IT 741-558. However, they lost to New Jersey City 713-791, St. Peter’s 707-762, Sacred Heart 723-743, Valparaiso 665-801 and Kuztown 735-828. Hampton beat North Carolina Central 4-2 in Baker match play, before falling to Howard 2-4.
The Lady Pirates (45-55) will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, when they travel to Dover, Del. to compete in the Capital City Classic hosted by Delaware State University.
