LANDOVER, Md. –
The Hampton University men's and women's track & field teams each logged second-place finishes on Saturday at the 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Championships at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.

The Lady Pirates finished with 122.5 points, well behind champion Norfolk State with 159. The Lady Spartans' title snapped the Lady Pirates' seven-year streak of winning the MEAC indoor crown. Norfolk State also took the men's team title, its fifth straight, with a record 188 points, with the Pirates finishing second with 98 points.

Damon Dixon (Great Falls, Va.) was named the meet's Most Outstanding Field Performer on the men's side, thanks to 29 points and the MEAC title in the heptathlon. Dixon tallied 4,785 points, beating Maryland-Eastern Shore's Jermol Dix by 229 points. Dixon won four of the seven events – the 60-meter dash (7.14), long jump (6.69m), 60-meter hurdles (8.28) and pole vault (3.94m).

Lamar Veale (Chesapeake, Va.) finished third in the heptathlon with 4,439 points.

Dixon also finished second in the high jump with a height of 2.05 meters, second in the pole vault at 3.95 meters and sixth in the long jump at 7.13 meters.

Senior Francena McCorory (Hampton, Va.) was named the meet's Most Outstanding Runner on the women's side, tallying 27.5 points. She won the 400-meter dash with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 53.92, and the 200-meter dash with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 24.37. McCorory also led the 4x400-meter relay team to the gold at 3:48.01, and she finished fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.55.

Claudia Calder (Kingston, Jamaica) won the women's pentathlon, tallying 3,449 points and winning the high jump portion at 1.73 meters. Calder finished third in the high jump event with a height of 1.65 meters.

Jahlisa Smith (Plainfield, N.J.), who in October won the MEAC cross country title, added the 3,000-meter run to her resume, running a 10:31.13 after finishing fourth in the mile run with a time of 5:05.58.

Predist Walker (Suffolk, Va) won the 60-meter hurdles title, running a 7.94. David Kimani (Kenya) picked up a MEAC crown in the 3,000-meter run with a MEAC indoor record time of 8:49.99. Kimani also finished third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:20.57.

Xavier Fraction (Sewell, N.J.) ran a 4:19.54 to finish third in the mile run.

The Lady Pirates distance medley relay team finished second with a time of 12:06.42, while the Pirates ran a 10:24.37 to finish third.

The Pirates will return to action on March 6-7, when they head to Boston, Mass. For the IC4A Indoor Championships, while the Lady Pirates will compete in the Christopher Newport Last Chance Pentathlon in Newport News, Va. on March 4 and the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier in Blacksburg, Va. on March 6.
