HAMPTON TRACK COMPETES IN UNC CLASSIC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –
The Hampton University men's and women's track & field teams took home a pair of relay titles on Saturday in the Kent Taylor UNC Classic at the Eddie Smith Field House.

The Pirates distance medley relay team of Michael Davenport (Pleasantville, N.J.), Christopher Williams, Bryan Brown (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and Berian White (Newark, Del.) took gold with a combined time of 10:26.44. The Lady Pirates also took the distance medley relay title, as Kenya Jones (Chesapeake, Va.), Margaret Harris (South Bend, Ind.), Janean Morris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Jahlisa Smith (Plainfield, N.J.) teamed up to run a 12:25.71.

Jones also finished second in the mile run with a 5:03.93.

Racquel Vassell (Irvington, N.J.) ran an 8.59 to finish second in the 60-meter hurdles, while Petrice Richards (Manchester, Jamaica) came in second in the 200-meter dash with a time on 25.07. Richards also came in fourth in the 60-meter dash, running a 7.55, while Vassell jumped 5.63 meters to finish fourth in the long jump.

Claudia Calder (Kingston, Jamaica) finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.63 meters, while Smith ran a 2:19.06 to finish fourth in the 800-meter run. Leah Richmond (Long Beach, Calif.) also recorded a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a 58.05.

Vassell ran a 25.46 to finish fifth in the 200-meter dash.

Lawrence Campbell (Peekskill, N.Y.) ran a 1:56.09 to finish third in the 800-meter run, while Aaron Anderson (Fort Washington, Md.) ran a 22.55 to finish fourth in the 200-meter dash. Devon Brown (Laurel, Md.) ran a 22.61 in the 200-meter dash to finish fifth, and Damon Dixon (Great Falls, Va.) jumped 7.26 meters to finish sixth in the long jump.

David Kimani (Kenya) finished ninth in the mile run with a time of 4:24.31.

The Pirates and Lady Pirates will return to action Friday and Saturday, when the men travel to State College, Pa. for the Penn state National and the women head to Boston for the Terrier Invitational.
