VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Hampton University senior
Francena McCorory was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week, as announced on Thursday by the conference office.
This marks the second straight week that McCorory has been named MEAC Athlete of the Week.
McCorory (Hampton, Va.) won three event titles on Friday in the New York City Gotham Cup at the Armory Track & Field Center, taking the 60-meter dash in a MEAC-best 7.51 and setting a school record in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:10.74. She was also on the 4x400-meter relay team that took the gold medal with a combined time of 3:50.79.
Calesio Newman of North Carolina A&T was named MEAC Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week.
McCorory and the Lady Pirates will return to action on Saturday, when they head to Chapel Hill, N.C. to compete in the UNC Classic at the Eddie Smith Field House.
