STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Hampton University women’s bowling team won three matches this past weekend at the Terriers New Year Knockdown, hosted by St. Francis College (N.Y.) on Saturday and Sunday.
All three of Hampton’s wins came against nationally-ranked teams; New Jersey City was ranked eighth in last week’s NTCA rankings, while St. Francis (N.Y.) was ninth and Adelphi was 11th.
The Lady Pirates went 1-4 during Saturday’s team match play, opening action with a 796-894 loss to Kutztown before beating New Jersey City University 849-800. Hampton then fell 802-995 to Fairleigh-Dickinson, 797-992 to Saint Francis (N.Y.) and 813-856 to Norfolk State.
Rebecca Glazier (Newport News, Va.) led the Lady Pirates with 879 total pins on Saturday, averaging 175.8 pins per game. She tied for the team high with a game of 190, which she bowled against Kutztown;
Ashley Hampton (New Jersey City, N.J.) also rolled a 190 against Norfolk State.
Jamie Zarnick (West Bloomfield, Mich.) rolled an 817 on Saturday, averaging 163.4 pins per game and rolling a personal-high 185 against St. Francis.
Hampton bowled an 806 on Saturday, averaging 161.2 per game.
The Lady Pirates went 1-1 in Baker total pinfall action on Sunday, beating Adelphi 781-674 by taking three of the four games before falling 652-701 to St. Peter’s. Hampton closed out action on Sunday in Baker match play, going 1-2. The Lady Pirates beat St. Francis (N.Y.) 4-2, before falling 3-4 to Kutztown and 2-4 to St. Peter’s.
The Lady Pirates (34-42) will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, when they travel to Laurel, Md. to compete in the Lady Bulldog Classic hosted by Bowie State.
