HAMPTON, Va. – Senior Francena McCorory and junior Quanneisha Perry were named on Monday as Hampton University’s first Athletes of the Week for their performances on the track and the basketball court.
McCorory (Hampton, Va.) accounted for three event titles on Friday in the New York City Gotham Cup at the Armory Track & Field Center. She took the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.51, before setting a
school-record in winning the 500-meter dash at 1:10.74. McCorory was also on the 4x400-meter relay team that took the gold in 3:40.79.
The Lady Pirates won a combined eight event titles at the Gotham Cup.
Perry (Decatur, Ga.) recorded her third double-double of the season on Monday against Morgan State, scoring 21 points and pulling down 11 rebounds in a 74-37 win over the Lady Bears. She followed that up on Saturday with another double-double at Norfolk State, scoring a career-high 23 points to go along with 13 boards in a 63-59 overtime win.
The Lady Pirates have won back-to-back games heading into Monday’s contest at North Carolina A&T.
