BLANCHARD NAMED SBN ALL-AMERICAN

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Hampton University senior punter Jahmal Blanchard has added yet another award to his trophy case, as he was named on Friday to the SBN Sports Black College All-American Team.

Blanchard (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) was named First Team All-MEAC for the third straight season after once again leading the conference in punting with an average of 43.9 yards per kick in 2009. Blanchard racked up 2,590 total punting yards in 59 kicks, recording 10 touchbacks and placing 19 kicks inside the opponents’ 20-yard line.

Twelve of Blanchard’s punts went 50 yards or longer, and he matched his career-long of 79 yards in a 37-0 win over Howard on Oct. 10.

Blanchard has also been named to the Associated Press FCS All-America team, earning Third Team honors for the 2009 season. He was also an SBN Black College All-American last season, and Blanchard will be recognized at the Eastern College Football Awards Banquet on Feb. 18.

K.J. Black of Prairie View A&M was named SBN Sports/Doug Williams Offensive Player of the Year, while Grambling State’s Christian Anthony was named SBN Sports Defensive Player of the Year. Henry Frazier III of Prairie View A&M was named SBN Sports/Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year.
