Hampton University senior Francena McCorory won an event title on Saturday at the Father Diamond Invitational on Saturday, hosted by George Mason University at the George Mason Field House.

McCorory (Hampton, Va.) won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.10, and she was also part of the 4x400-meter relay that won the gold in 3:53.21. The Lady Pirates ‘B’ team also recorded the top time in 4x800-meter relay, running a 9:26.68.

The ‘A’ relay team was second with a 9:29.19.

McCorory also finished second in the 60-meter dash, running a 7.64, while Petrice Richards (Manchester, Jamaica) ran a 7.67 to finish third. Richards also finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.54. Racquel Vassell (Irvington, N.J.) ran a 57.68 in the 400-meter dash to finish third.

Janean Morris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished third in the 500-meter run with a 1:17.64. MEAC cross country champion Jahlisa Smith (Plainfield, N.J.) ran a 10:42.57 to finish third in the 3,000-meter run, while Jasmin Branch (Hampton, Va.) ran a 10:47.73 to finish fourth.

Jocelyn Watkins (Ellenwood, Ga.) finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 12.22 meters.

Former Lady Pirates Yvette Lewis, running unattached, won two event titles; after winning the long jump with a distance of 6.20 meters, Lewis won the 60-meter hurdles race in 8.17. Lewis also finished second in the high jump with a height of 1.70 meters.

Predist Walker (Suffolk, Va.) finished second in the long jump with a distance of 7.06 meters, before jumping 14.43 meters in the triple jump to finish fourth. Damon Dixon (Great Falls, Va.) jumped 7.02 meters to finish third in the long jump, while also tying for third in the high jump with Lamar Veale (Chesapeake, Va.) at 1.95 meters.

Aaron Anderson (Fort Washington, Md.) ran a 6.88 in the 60-meter dash to finish second, while Devon Brown (Laurel, Md.) finished third with a 6.91. Dixon ran an 8.27 in the 60-meter hurdles to finish fifth, and Justin Battle (Somerset, N.J.) ran a 22.95 in the 200-meter dash to finish fifth.

Freshman Xavier Fraction (Sewell, N.J.) finished sixth in the 1,000-meter run by running a 2:29.65.

The Pirates’ 4x800-meter relay team ran a 7:48.95 to finish second, while the 4x400-meter relay squad finished third with a time of 3:24.04.

The Pirates and Lady Pirates will return to action on Friday, when they travel to the Big Apple for the New York City Gotham Cup.
