PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Hampton University men’s and women’s cross country teams will be on the campus of the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore on Saturday for the UMES Cappy Anderson Invitational.
The Pirates finished sixth in the UMES Lid-Lifter Invitational to open the 2009 season on Sept. 5, with freshman
Berian White (Christiana, Del.) leading the way with a 28:27.45 to finish 30th. Junior
David Kimani (Kenya) finished 37th with a 29:27.06, while
Mike Davenport (Pleasantville, N.J.) came in 39th with a time of 29:48.07. Freshman
Xavier Fraction (Sewell, N.J.) ran a 30:09.43 to finish 41st, and
Bryan Brown (Upper Marlboro, Md.) finished 49th with a 39:22.85.
The Lady Pirates have not yet run this season.
The Pirates finished eighth in the UMES Cappy Anderson Invitational last season with 178 points. Brown was the top returning finisher, coming in 50th in last year’s meet with a time of 40:54.89 on the 8K course. Daniel Edmund had the team’s top finish in that meet, running a 27:44.33 to finish 27th.
The Lady Pirates finished fifth in last year’s Cappy Anderson meet with 146 points, with
Kenya Jones (Chesapeake, Va.) leading the team with an 18:44.04 on the 5K course to finish seventh.
Jasmin Branch (Hampton, Va.) finished 14th with a 19:17.48, while
Jahlisa Smith (Plainfield, N.J.) ran a 20:14.07 to come in 29th.
Adrienne Thomas (Silver Spring, Md.) finished 47th with a 20:36.63, and
Janean Morris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished 52nd after running a 20:52.14.
The University of Pittsburgh took both team titles in last year’s Cappy Anderson Invitational.
The Pirates and Lady Pirates will return to action on Sept. 26 for the William & Mary Inter-Regional Cross Country Meet in Williamsburg, Va.
