PRINCETON, N.J. –
Hampton University sophomore Reggie Dixon won the 100-meter dash title on Sunday at the 2009 Intercollegiate Association for Amateur Athletes in America (IC4A) Outdoor Championships at the William Weaver Track & Field Stadium on the campus of Princeton University.

Dixon (Plainfield, N.J.) ran a 10.44 to take the title, reaching NCAA regional qualification. Aaron Anderson (Fort Washington, Md.) also reached regional qualification in that event, running a 10.55 and finishing third.

Predist Walker (Suffolk, Va.) ran a 13.96 in the 110-meter hurdles to come in second. That was Walker’s best time this season and good enough for NCAA regional qualification. Walker also jumped 7.01 meters in the long jump to come in 14th.

Brandon Jones (Virginia Beach, Va.) placed in two events, coming in fourth in the triple jump with an NCAA regional qualifying mark of 15.18 meters before coming in seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.45.

Damon Dixon (Great Falls, Va.) wound up 10th in the decathlon with a season-best 6,284 points. He took the first event on Saturday morning, running a 14.99 in the 110-meter hurdles to score 851 points.

In all, the Pirates finished seventh in the team standings with 31 points. The University of Albany won the IC4A team championship with 68 points. Liberty scored 56 points to come in second.

Rachel Lewis (Chesterfield, Va.) finished sixth in the long jump on Sunday in the ECAC Outdoor Championships, jumping 5.88 meters. She also jumped 11.82 meters to finish 14th in the triple jump.

The Lady Pirates had three other finalists on Sunday – Michelle Smith (Teaneck, N.J.) in the 100-meter hurdles, Racquel Vassell (Irvington, N.J.) in the 200-meter dash and Francena McCorory (Hampton, Va.) in the 400-meter dash – but chilly conditions kept them from running in Sunday’s event finals.

All three women will be competing in the NCAA East Regional May 29-30 in Greensboro, N.C.; McCorory reached NCAA regional qualification during Saturday’s preliminary heats, running a 54.29 in the 400-meter dash, while Smith turned in the fastest time in the 100-meter hurdle preliminaries with a 13.67.

The Lady Pirates scored three points to finish in a tie for 48th in the team standings. Connecticut won the ECAC team title with 88 points, 30 points clear of second-place University of Virginia.

The Pirates and Lady Pirates will return to action May 29-30, when several Hampton University athletes will make the trip to Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T for the 2009 NCAA East Regional.
