HAMPTON, Va. -- The Hampton University men’s and women’s tennis teams hosted the Hornets of Delaware State on Saturday. The Lady Pirates (4-6) defeated Delaware State 5-1, while the men’s team (3-6) took a 4-0 victory.
Marcelo Reda (Tremembe, Brazil)/Edson Alves, 6-3,
Nelio Mattos (Ribeirao Preto, Brazil)/
Sung-Kwon Baek (Pusan, Korea), 8-2, and
Gabriel Groh (Taubate, Brazil)/
Gellert Varga (Becej, Serbia), 8-0, each earned match points in doubles play action.
On the women’s side of double play,
Na-Hyun Baek (Seoul, Korea)/
Jovanna Sangria (Long Beach, Calif.), 8-6, and
Maria Ycaza (Guayaquil, Ecuador)/
Barenese Myers (Beverly Hills, Calif.), 8-6, each earned victories.
In the singles action, Hampton dominated the matches, winning every single match the Pirates played in.
Hampton did not play North Carolina Central earlier that day because of weather. The Pirates and Lady Pirates will conclude the regular season this weekend when they host Howard on Friday at 1p.m. before traveling to Baltimore to play Coppin State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Senior Day will be Sunday against Morgan State at 1 p.m.
