HAMPTON BOWLING ENDS MEAC SLATE WITH WINNING MARK

BALTIMORE, Md. –
The Hampton University women's bowling team closed the 2009-10 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) regular-season slate this past weekend with a strong showing in the MEAC North meet hosted by Coppin State University on Saturday and Sunday.

With a combined 6-4 mark over the weekend, the Lady Pirates close conference play with a 16-14 mark – the team's first winning record in conference play under the current format. The Lady Pirates also recorded their highest finish in the MEAC Northern Division, coming in third to qualify for the 2010 MEAC Bowling Championships – which will be held March 19-21 in Greensboro, N.C.

Hampton went 2-3 in total pinfall action on Saturday, opening with back-to-back losses against Delaware State (909-1,052) and Morgan State (865-889) before beating Howard 937-709. After falling 865-958 to Maryland-Eastern Shore, Hampton defeated Coppin State 768-706.

Jamie Zarnick (West Bloomfield, Mich.) totaled a team-high 930 pins on Saturday, rolling a personal-best 235 against Morgan State. She also bowled a 209 against UMES, and averaged 186 pins per game. Dara Martin (Oswego, Ill.) had 867 total pins – an average of 173.4 a game – while Jazzminn Richey-Obey (Lorain, Ohio) bowled a combined 852 (170.4 per game) and Rebecca Glazier totaled 849 (169.8).

Glazier (Newport News, Va.) had two games over 200, bowling a 228 against Howard and a 206 against Delaware State.

The Lady Pirates went 4-1 in Sunday's Baker total pinfall action, its only loss coming against Delaware State, 710-837. Hampton opened with a 694-692 win over Morgan State, taking two of the four games, before winning the last three matches after the loss to the Hornets.

Hampton upended UMES 782-777 by taking three of the four games, before beating Coppin State 711-553 and Howard 690-566.

The Lady Pirates (25-31, 16-14 MEAC) will return to action after the New Year, traveling to Staten Island, N.Y. on Jan. 15-17 for the Terriers New Year Knockdown.
