VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced on Friday the field for the 2010 MEAC Bowling Championships, held March 19-21 in Greensboro, N.C. The Lady Pirates earned a slot following their highest MEAC Northern Division finish.
After last weekend’s MEAC meet hosted by Coppin State, the Lady Pirates finished conference play with a 16-14 mark – the third-best mark in the MEAC North behind Delaware State and Maryland-Eastern Shore. It was Hampton’s first-ever winning MEAC record under the current format.
Delaware State won the MEAC Northern Division with a 29-1 conference mark, while Florida A&M took the MEAC Southern Division with a 19-5 record. UMES and Morgan State advanced to the tournament alongside Hampton, while Norfolk State, Bethune-Cookman and South Carolina State qualified from the MEAC South with Florida A&M.
The tournament begins Friday, March 19 with a qualifying round to determine seeding. Teams will then compete in a second qualifying round with Baker games and placed in a double-elimination bracket.
Play continues on Saturday with teams competing in a best-of-seven Baker series.
The 2010 MEAC Bowling Championships will conclude on Sunday, March 21 beginning with the semifinal round and concluding with the championship final. Match times will be announced at a later date.
The top four teams in each division qualified for the MEAC Championships; Howard, Coppin State and North Carolina A&T did not qualify this season.
