LADY PIRATES COMPETE IN UMES HAWK CLASSIC

MILLSBORO, Del. –
The Hampton University bowling team competed in the Eastern Shore Hawk Classic, hosted by the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Lady Pirates went 1-4 in Friday's opening action, competing in Baker total pinfall format. Hampton opened with an 830-676 win over Howard, taking all five games, before dropping matches against St. Francis-N.Y. (782-796), Valparaiso (758-827), Delaware State (815-903) and New Jersey City University (791-938).

Hampton also went 1-4 in Saturday's team match competition, falling 702-813 to Saint Peter's College before beating Cheyney 827-581. The Lady Pirates then lost three straight matches, falling to Sacred Heart (820-908), Fairleigh-Dickenson (759-879) and Norfolk State (736-897). Freshman Rebecca Glazier (Newport News, Va.) led the Lady Pirates with 815 total pins on Saturday, bowling a personal-best 186 against Sacred Heart. In five total matches on Saturday, Glazier averaged 163 pins per game.

Jazzminn Richey-Obey (Lorain, Ohio) bowled 800 total pins (160 per game) on Saturday, rolling a personal-high 169 against Norfolk State and 163 against Cheyney. Jamie Zarnick (West Bloomfield, Mich.) bowled a 785 (157 per game) on Saturday, including a team-high 203 against Cheyney.

The Lady Pirates combined for 3,844 total pins on Saturday.

Hampton closed out the Hawk Classic on Sunday by going 1-2 in Baker match play competition. The Lady Pirates opened with a 4-3 win over Saint Peter's, before falling 0-4 to Morgan State and 1-4 to Saint Peter's in a rematch.

The Lady Pirates (25-31) will return to action on Dec. 5-6, when they head to Baltimore, Md. for their third MEAC North meet of the season, hosted by Morgan State.
