PIRATES FINISH 10TH IN BETHUNE-COOKMAN INVITATIONAL

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Hampton University men’s golf team finished 10th out of 10 teams on Sunday at the Bethune-Cookman Fall Invitational, hosted by Bethune-Cookman University at the Legends Course. The Pirates finished the tournament with a 192-over par score of 1,056 (358-356-342).
Tre Craig led the Pirates with a 39th-place finish after firing a 41-over 257 (83-92-82). Geffory Napper (Bowie, Md.) shot a 44-over 260 (94-82-84) to finish 42nd, while Javier Lopez (Chicago, Ill.) finished in a tie for 45th after shooting a 47-over 263 (90-91-82).

Curtis Farmington shot a 68-over 284 (97-91-96) to finish 50th, and Sidney Fields fired a 73-over 289 (91-104-94) to finish in a tie for 52nd.

Craig, Napper and Lopez all tied for the team-best round of the tournament, each shooting an 82. Craig and Lopez fired theirs in Sunday’s final round, while Napper shot his during Saturday’s second round.

Sam Ryder of Stetson won the individual title with an 8-under 208 (69-71-68); Florida Atlantic won the team championship with a 7-under 857 (287-289-281).

The Pirates will wrap up the fall 2009 season Nov. 8-10, when they will travel to Savannah, Ga. to compete in the Savannah State Fall Invitational.
