HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University volleyball team defeated Chowan College in an exhibition match,
3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-11), Thursday night at Holland Hall.
The Lady Pirates had 45 kills in 133 total attacks for a team hitting percentage of .173. Hampton had a .444 hitting percentage in the fourth set, where the Lady Pirates recorded nine kills in 18 attacks, with just one error.
Aaryn Harrison (Cary, N.C.) led the team with 11 kills in 25 attacks, while
Brittany Wynne (Sacramento, Calif.) and Mianna Armstrong each had 10 kills apiece. Harrison also led the team with a .320 hitting percentage.
Mariah Baylor (Minneapolis, Minn.) had a team-high four service aces, with Lihi Elkayam adding another three.
Elkayam (Misgav, Israel) also had 35 of Hampton's 37 assists.
Ivana Suput (Zitiste, Serbia) led the Lady Pirates on defense, recording 21 of the team's 60 digs.
Armstrong (Lomond, Alberta) had 13 digs.
Victoria Lewis and Karina Monroe led Chowan with nine kills each.
Since the match was an exhibition, the results will not go to either team's record, and the statistics will not go toward season totals and averages.
The Lady Pirates (5-11) will return to regular-season action on Sunday, when they take on North Carolina Central at Holland Hall at 6 p.m. N.C. Central will then play Maryland-Eastern Shore after the Hampton match.
