LADY PIRATES GOLF FALL 2008: IN REVIEW

The Hampton University women's golf team completed the fall 2008 season this past weekend in the Savannah State University Invitational, ending a three-tournament slate leading up to the spring 2009 campaign. Below is a look back at each tournament.

Sea Trail Intercollegiate Golf Tournament (Sept. 19-21)
 
 
SUNSET BEACH, N.C. – Hampton University finished 16th out of 17 teams with a three-day score of 1,019. Freshman Dionne West paced the Lady Pirates with a score of 22-over par, good enough for a tie for 44th.
 
Iman Ellis finished in a tie for 82nd, shooting 37-over. Sydnee Mauk shot 45-over to finish 88th, Jessi Mitchell finished 90th with a score of 59-over and Hailey Hill shot a 62-over to finish 92nd.
 
East Tennessee State won the team title with a three-day score of 905. East Tennessee State’s Laura Jansone shot even par over the three days, finishing with a 216.
 
 
2008 Rutgers Women’s Invitational (Oct. 10-11)
 
 
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Hampton University women’s golf team finished 10th out of 16 teams at the 2008 Rutgers Women’s Invitational with a two-day score of 664. Freshman Sydnee Mauk led the Lady Pirates with a 13-over 157, good enough for a tie for ninth place.
 
Iman Ellis finished in a tie for 27th, shooting 19-over par. Britney Alford shot 24-over to finish in a tie for 40th, while Dionne West finished in a tie for 61st after shooting a 32-over 176. Jessi Mitchell finished in a tie for 81st with a 41-over 185.
 
Boston College won the team title with a two-day score of 629. Lehigh’s Livia Amado won the individual crown, shooting a 3-over 147 over the two-day tournament.
 
 
Savannah State University Tiger Fall Invitational (Nov. 10-11)

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Hampton University women’s golf team finished second in the Savannah State University Tiger Fall Invitational at the Henderson Golf Club, recording a two-day score of 706. Freshman Dionne West was the highest-finishing Lady Pirate, coming in third with a 168.
 
West shot 82 and 86 on the par-71 layout, finishing 26-over. Fellow freshman Sydnee Mauk shot a 29-over-par 171, good enough for fifth place. Iman Ellis was the third Lady Pirate to finish in the top 10, finishing in a tie for ninth thanks to her two-day score of 181.
 
Hailey Hill finished 13th with a 46-over 188, while Britney Alford shot a 189 to finish 14th.
 
South Carolina State won the team title with a two-day score of 693. Honesty Biggers of South Carolina State won the individual title with a 14-over 156. Alabama State’s Danielle Robinson came in second with a 22-over 164.
