West, Freeman and Pilgrim Earn Preseason Honors
Raleigh, NC - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced its preseason basketball preseason honors at the 2007 Basketball Press Luncheon held as the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Raleigh, NC earlier this week. The preseason teams were chosen by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
Roy Bright of Delaware State was named the 2007-08 Preseason MEAC Player of the Year. Hampton University's Rashad West, Matthew Pilgrim and Michael Freeman were all selected to the preseason All-MEAC team as well.
West, a 6-1 senior guard from Raleigh, NC, was selected as a member of the preseason first team. He led the MEAC in scoring last season, averaging 17.8 points per game while scoring 551 total points.
Pilgrim and Freeman were selected to the preseason second team.
Last season, Pilgrim, a 6-8 forward from Cincinnati, Ohio, averaged 11 points per game ranking third on the team in scoring and second in rebounding (11.0 ppg../5.3 rpg.).. Freeman, a 6-8 forward from Alexandria, VA, led the team in rebounding and was second on the tem in scoring with 14.2 points per game and the 6.5 rebounds a game. Freeman led NCAA Division I in field goal percentage last season, connecting on 67.9 percent of his shots.
