NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton junior forward
Trevond Barnes was named on Tuesday as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending on Dec. 11.
Barnes averaged 10 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and a steal over Hampton's past two games. In a home loss to Coastal Carolina, Barnes posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds along with two blocks and a steal. He returned to the court at Missouri State two days later and blocked two shots with a steal to go with seven points and four rebounds. Barnes hit 50% from the floor (7-of-14) and 75% from the foul line (6-of-8).
On the year, the LaFayette, Ala. native is averaging 5.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.
Hampton returns to action on Sunday at 2 pm when they face Gardner-Webb at the HU Convocation Center.
