2009 Hampton University Peninsula Relays
March 10, 2009
Head High School Track Coaches
Dear Coaches,
Greeting from Hampton University, “Our Home By The Sea”. On behalf of Eddie Williams, Head Track Coach at Bethel High School, we would like to thank all of the schools that have participated in the Peninsula Relays over the past years. We here at Hampton University along with Bethel High School are excited to be hosting the 2009 Peninsula Relays. The Peninsula Relays has been an exciting meet hosted by Bethel High School held here on the Peninsula for over the past 25 years. The 2009 meet will be the same as the past relays and will be sanctioned by the VHSL and bordering states.
We here at Hampton University are excited to be hosting such a historical meet on such a historical campus. We have a brand new track facility that will allow your athletes to produce some outstanding performances. Our new track is set up to allow the 100m dash, 100h and 110h to be run on either side of the track and in either direction! The facility also has three (3) LJ/TJ pits, two (2) HJ pits, two (2) shot-put rings, a new steeplechase barrier and new surfaced PV area. The changes and updates for 2009:
1. No separation of AAA and AA/A division. Everyone will compete together.
2. No specialized events. We will run the standard outdoor events.
3. No longer will field events be run as relays.
4. We will still have the following JV relays: 4x100, 4x200, 4x400
5. T-Shirts will be given to the top 3 relays and individuals per event.
6. We will have the boy’s and girl’s Pole Vault.
This year we will also be honoring many former outstanding peninsula high school coaches and runners during the meet. Also, we will be having an Admissions Fair at the meet hosted by the Hampton University Office of Admissions.
We look forward to seeing you and your teams compete 2009!
Sincerely,
Maurice Pierce, Head Women’s Track Coach-Hampton University
Steve Lewis, Head Men’s Track Coach-Hampton University
