DURHAM, NC – The Hampton University track teams participated in the Duke Invitational this weekend at Morris William Stadium and came away with 15 IC4A/ECAC outdoor championship qualifying times in the 45-team meet.
Freshman
Janet Okeago came away with the lone victory for Hampton as she ran a 35:41.47 to win the 10,000 meters. This was her second fastest 10,000 this season and her second victory this year including indoor.
Sophomore Kylie Mcmillan finished fourth in the 100 hurdles with a 14.23 after running a 14.06 in the preliminaries. This marks her second top four finish of the outdoor season.
Freshman Kiyana Thomas took seventh in the shot put with a toss of 13.31m (43-8) for her third top seven finish of the year and second best toss of the outdoor season.
In the javelin, freshman
Ayana Culhane also finished seventh with a toss of 39.90m (130-11) for her second best toss of the outdoor season and fourth top eight finish.
Joining them in ECAC qualifying times were
Mallory Pitchford in the 100 hurdle preliminaries (14.24/9
th) and
Taije Jordan also in the 100 hurdles preliminaries (14.27/10
th).
On the men's side, the top finisher was
Stanley Davis in the 400 hurdles who came in fourth with a season best time of 52.05. It was the second fastest in his Hampton career after running 51.78 in 2015 outdoor season.
Tayvon Burris took sixth in the 800 running a season best time of 1:50.41. That was his second top six finish of the outdoor season.
The 4x100 relay team of Brenan Garrett,
Isaiah Norris,
Jerrick Powell and
Joshua Hagins ran a 41.45 to take sixth and also qualify for the IC4A.
Other IC4A qualifiers from the Duke Invitational included
Charles Graham in the 110 hurdles (14.73) and 400 hurdles (53.76),
Isaiah Norris in the 100 meters (11.00),
Jerrick Powell in the 400 (48.88) and
Jaelen Williams in the 110 hurdles (14.56).
Hampton will next run in the prestigious Penn Relays this coming weekend in Philadelphia, Pa. starting on Thursday.
