POWERS NAMED THIRD TEAM ALL-MEAC

NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton University junior guard Deron Powers was named Third Team All-MEAC as the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) released its postseason honors and awards on Friday evening.
 
The postseason All-MEAC teams were voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
 
Powers (Williamsburg, Va.) was a Preseason First Team All-MEAC selection.
 
He averaged 9.6 points this season to rank fourth on the team, and Powers' team-high 3.8 assists per contest ranked fifth in the MEAC. Powers was also second in the conference in free throw percentage, hitting 85 percent from the charity stripe.
 
Powers also led the MEAC in assist/turnover ratio at 2.3.
 
He has scored in double figures 15 times this season, including each of the last eight games. Powers poured in a season-high 23 points on Feb. 28 in a 68-67 win at Howard, and Powers became the 27th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark on Thursday against Norfolk State.
 
Powers currently has 1,005 career points.
 
Powers dished out a season-high seven assists three times this season, mostly recently in Thursday's loss to the Spartans.
 
Delaware State's Kendall Gray was named both MEAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, while Ryan Andino of Maryland Eastern Shore was named MEAC Rookie of the Year.
 
UMES' Bobby Collins was named MEAC Coach of the Year.
