WASHINGTON, FONSECA NAMED HU ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

HAMPTON, Va. – Hampton University sophomore Jorrian Washington and junior Bibiany Fonseca were named HU Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.

Washington (Los Angeles, Calif.) returned the opening kickoff of the second half at Tennessee Tech on Thursday 100 yards for a touchdown, keying a Pirates second-half comeback attempt on the road. He became the first Pirate to return a kickoff for a touchdown since 2008, when Kevin Teel returned a pair against Howard.

He also tied the school record for longest kickoff return; the mark was originally set by Terrance Patrick in 2002 against Alcorn State.

Fonseca (Uberlandia, Brazil), a transfer from Towson, was key in the Lady Pirates' 3-2 mark this past week on the volleyball court. After recording 30 assists and 13 digs in a home win over Radford, Fonseca averaged 8.69 assists per set in the Stetson Clarion Classic.

Against Wofford, Fonseca had 36 assists and nine digs on defense to go along with three service aces. Her best match, however, came in a five-set win over Florida Atlantic on Saturday, when she had 38 assists, nine kills, a .538 hitting percentage, and a career-high five service aces.

In a four-set win over host Stetson, she had 45 assists and 10 digs for her third double-double of the season.

Fonseca has recorded double-digit assists in all nine Hampton matches so far this season.
