HAMPTON, Va. – Hampton University senior guard
Darrion Pellum's alley-oop dunk in Wednesday's game against Maryland Eastern Shore was featured on Thursday afternoon's
SportsCenter on ESPN as the “Best of the Best.”
Pellum's slam – in which he threw the ball off the backboard in transition before catching it and dunking over UMES' Mark Robertson – garnered 53 percent of the vote among SportsCenter viewers and beat out Jeremy Lin's game-winning 3-pointer against the Toronto Raptors.
The dunk will again be up for a vote for the “Best of the Best” next week on SportsCenter.
Pellum (Hampton, Va.) leads the MEAC in scoring this season with 18.4 points per game; he dropped 33 against UMES on Wednesday for his third 30-point game of the season.
He has five 30-point games for his career.
Pellum and the Pirates (9-16, 5-7 MEAC) will return to action on Saturday, when they head to Newark, Del. to take on the University of Delaware at the Bob Carpenter Center at 2 p.m. as part of ESPN BracketBusters.
