BOSTON, Mass. – Hampton University senior Francena McCorory won a pair of event titles on Friday and Saturday at the Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University, held at the Track & Tennis Center.
McCorory (Hampton, Va.) ran a 37.18 to take the 300-meter dash, just missing out on the national record, before anchoring the 4x400-meter relay that took the gold in a season-best 3:46.26. Leah Richmond, Racquel Vassell and Petrice Richards were also on that team.
The 4x800-meter relay team – comprised of Kenya Jones, Jahlisa Smith,
Janean Morris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Claudia Calder – also took gold, running a 9:07.00.
Richards (Manchester, Jamaica) also finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.37, adding a 40.44 in the 300-meter dash to come in third.
Vassell (Irvington, N.J.) ran a 7.97 in the 55-meter hurdles to finish second, while also coming in fourth in the long jump with a distance of 5.72 meters.
Calder (Kingston, Jamaica) finished fourth in the high jump, leaping 1.62 meters.
Jones (Chesapeake, Va.) finished seventh in the mile run with a 5:02.42.
Richmond (Long Beach, Calif.) ran a 56.51 in the 400-meter dash to finish ninth, while
Smith (Plainfield, N.J.) finished ninth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.88.
The Lady Pirates will return to action on Friday and Saturday, when they return to New York for the Armory New Balance Collegiate Invitational.
