STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Hampton University junior Damon Dixon won the men’s heptathlon title on Saturday as the Pirates track & field team competed in the Penn State National Invitational at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
Dixon (Great Falls, Va.) finished with a school-record 5,236 points after winning four of the seven events. Anya Uzoh of Penn State finished second with 5,017 points.
After opening the heptathlon by winning the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.21, Dixon won the long jump portion with a distance of 6.90 meters and took the high jump with a height of 2.01 meters. Dixon also won the 60-meter hurdles portion of the heptathlon, running an 8.23.
Dixon finished fourth in the other three events: the shot put (11.32 meters), pole vault (4.05 meters) and 1,000-meter run (2:56.10).
Junior
Predist Walker (Suffolk, Va.) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing fourth with a time of 7.87.
Aaron Anderson (Fort Washington, Md.) finished third in the 60-meter dash after running a 6.81, before also running a 21.69 to finish fourth in the 200-meter dash invitational race.
The Pirates will return to action on Friday and Saturday, when they return to New York for the Armory New Balance Collegiate Invitational.
