HAMPTON, Va. – Hampton University senior Michael Freeman and junior Quanneisha Perry were named HU Athletes of the Week on Tuesday due to their performances on the basketball court.
Freeman, the reigning MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, has nine double-doubles this season following Monday’s 21-point, 16-rebound performance at Maryland-Eastern Shore. He has three straight double-doubles; against Bethune-Cookman on Jan. 25,
Freeman (Alexandria, Va.) scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, and he added 13 points and 10 rebounds this past Saturday at Delaware State.
He also averaged 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals against Bethune-Cookman and Delaware State.
Perry (Decatur, Ga.) was named MEAC Player of the Week for the second straight week after averaging a double-double of 17.5 points and 16 rebounds, while shooting 44-percent from the field (14-of-32) in two conference victories for the Lady Pirates last week. Against Florida A&M on Jan. 25, Perry tallied a double-double of 19 points and 19 rebounds. She followed that performance with her seventh double-double of the season (16 points, 13 rebounds) in a win over Delaware State on Saturday.
Perry added 17 points and 14 rebounds at Maryland-Eastern Shore on Monday for her third straight double-double and her seventh in the last 10 games.
