ATLANTA, Ga. –
The Hampton University women's basketball team beat Georgia State 74-44 on Thursday at the GSU Sports Arena to win the 17th annual Georgia State Invitational.

Junior forward Melanie Warner (Tallahassee, Fla.) and junior guard Choicetta McMillian (Fairfield, Texas) each added 13 points. Warner was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Lady Pirates (8-4) shot 42.6 percent (23-for-54) from the floor in picking up their seventh straight win, while holding Georgia State to 32.2 percent (19-for-59) shooting from the floor and forcing 17 Panther turnovers, converting them into 19 points.

Hampton shot 60.9 percent (14-for-23) in the second half alone.

Georgia State out-rebounded the Lady Pirates 37-34. Chan Harris led the Panthers with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Angelique Burtts added 10 points. Both players were named to the All-Tournament team.

A 3-pointer from McMillian with 11:36 left in the contest gave the Lady Pirates a 5-26 lead, and Georgia State (5-6) would get no closer than 15, cutting Hampton's lead to 55-40 with 5:56 remaining on a Tiffany Anderson jumper.

Hampton closed out the game on a 19-2 run from that point forward.

The Lady Pirates will close out non-conference play on Thursday, Jan. 6, when they head to Winston-Salem, N.C. to take on Wake Forest at 7 p.m.
