LADY PIRATES LOOK FOR FIVE STRAIGHT AGAINST IPFW

HAMPTON, Va. –
The Hampton University women's basketball team will look for its fifth straight win on Sunday afternoon, when the Lady Pirates welcome Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW) to the HU Convocation Center at 2 p.m.

The Lady Pirates (5-4), in their second season under head coach David Six, won their fourth straight game on Friday, Dec. 10, handling Florida 69-54 at the HU Convocation Center. Four Lady Pirates scored in double figures and three recorded double-doubles, led by junior forward Melanie Warner (Tallahassee, Fla.) with a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds. Senior forward Quanneisha Perry (Decatur, Ga.) added 14 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, while junior guard Jericka Jenkins (Lancaster, Texas) poured in 14 points and dished out a career-high 12 assists.

Junior guard Choicetta McMillian (Fairfield, Texas) added 14 points.

The Mastadons (6-3) won their third straight on Saturday, Dec. 11, when they beat Detroit 78-66 at the Memorial Coliseum. Four players scored in double figures, led by a career-high 19 points from sophomore guard Kayla Drake. Junior forward Stephanie Rosado and junior guard Anne Boese each added 13 points, while senior guard Chelsey Jackson poured in 11.

Hampton is 2-0 all-time against IPFW, though the two teams haven't met since 1987, when Hampton was still a Division II program. The Lady Pirates beat IPFW 92-45 on Nov. 29, 1986 in Hampton, Va. before taking to the road on Dec. 4, 1987 for a 94-63 win over the Mastadons.

The Mastadons were picked to finish fourth in the Summit League, coming off a 2009-10 season that saw IPFW go 13-17 overall and finish 10-8 in conference play. IPFW returns four starters and seven letterwinners, including Preseason First Team selection Rosado and Preseason Second Team selection Boese.

Rosado leads three Mastadons in double figures so far this season, averaging 18.6 points per game to go along with a team-high 8.4 rebounds per contest. Drake, a transfer from Eastern Kentucky, is averaging 12.5 points per game, while Boese is pouring in 11.0 points a night.

The Mastadons are averaging 73.8 points per game on offense, while giving up 69.2 points per contest.

Hampton is 3-2 all-time against teams from the Summit League. The Lady Pirates are 2-0 all-time against IPFW, 1-0 against North Dakota State, 0-1 against Oral Roberts and 0-1 against South Dakota State.
