LAUREL, Md. -- The Hampton University women's bowling team won six matches this past weekend at the Bulldog Classic, hosted by Bowie State University (Md.) on Saturday and Sunday.
The Lady Pirates went 3-2 during Saturday's team match play, opening action with an 861-1,029 loss to Aphelia and falling to Morgan State 857-998. Hampton came back to win the next three matches: 903-874 over Boise State, 930-589 over Cheney (Pa.) and 794-782 over North Carolina A&T.
Jamie Zarnick (West Bloomfield, Mich.) led the team in total pinfall with 963; she also bowled a season-high in her third game with a score of 245.
Jazzminn Richey-Obey (Lorain, Ohio) was second on the team with a total pinfall count of 924, and she averaged 184.8 per game.
As a team, Hampton's total pinfall was 4,345 on Saturday, averaging 173.8 per game. On Sunday, the Lady Pirates went 3-1 in Baker total pinfall action. The Lady Pirates beat Lincoln (Pa.) 712-513, nationally-ranked Norfolk State 736-727, and Winston-Salem State 696-547. Their only loss came to Florida A&M (749-796).
The Lady Pirates (40-45) will return to action on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, when they travel to Reading, Pa. to compete in the Golden Bear Invitational hosted by Kutztown.
