HAMPTON TENNIS TO COMPETE IN HBCU NATIONALS

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Hampton University men’s and women’s tennis teams will be competing in the 9th annual HBCU National Tennis Championships this Thursday through Sunday at the Sugar Creek Golf and Tennis Center in Atlanta, Ga.

The Pirates and Lady Pirates will join 16 other schools on the NCAA Division I and Division II level competing in this event. Tournament host Florida A&M is the defending champion, having won both the men’s and women’s titles last year.

Fellow MEAC schools Florida A&M, Bethune-Cookman, Morgan State, North Carolina A&T and Winston-Salem State will also be competing in this year’s HBCU Nationals. Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Alabama A&M, Alcorn State, Southern and Prairie View A&M from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) will also be competing, as will NCAA Division II schools Clark-Atlanta, Fort Valley State and Morehouse.

Xavier on New Orleans from the NAIA will also compete.

Matches will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday and continue throughout the day and all through the weekend. Though the finals are scheduled for Saturday, Sunday has built into the schedule as a rain day if needed.
