FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Hampton University junior Francena McCorory finished third in the 400-meter dash at the 2009 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
McCorory (Hampton, Va.) ran a season- and career-best 50.58, finishing .02 seconds behind second-place Jessica Beard from Texas A&M. Auburn's Joanna Atkins won the NCAA title with a 50.39.
McCorory's time was also a school record.
Sophomore
Reggie Dixon (Plainfield, N.J.) finished eighth in the men's 100-meter dash final on Friday, running a 10.38. Louisiana State's Trindon Holliday won the title with a time of 10 seconds flat.
Dixon also ran a 21.77 in Thursday's 200-meter dash preliminaries, the 23rd-fastest time in that round.
Texas A&M swept the team championships, with the men scoring 48 points and the women compiling 50. Florida and Florida State tied for second in the women's team standing with 46 points each.
