LADY PIRATES FALL TO UMES IN STRAIGHT SETS

HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University volleyball team fell to Maryland-Eastern Shore in straight sets, as the Lady Hawks took a 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-15) win Sunday afternoon in Holland Hall to remain undefeated in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play.

UMES had 37 total attacks in 64 chances, recording just eight errors en route to a team hitting percentage of .453. The Lady Hawks hit .533 (nine kills, one error, 15 attacks) in the first set, and .522 (14 kills, two errors, 23 attacks) in the third set. Hampton had 18 kills and 13 errors in 65 attacks for an .077 hitting percentage.

UMES also held a 7-3 advantage in service aces.

Aaryn Harrison (Cary, N.C.) led the Lady Pirates with five kills in 16 attacks, while Ornela Cadavid (Cali, Colombia) recorded four kills and no errors in five attacks for an .800 hitting percentage. Mianna Armstrong and Brittany Wynne (Sacramento, Calif.) each recorded three kills on the afternoon.

Lihi Elkayam (Misgav, Israel) led Hampton with 13 assists, while Ivana Suput (Zitiste, Serbia) led the way on defense with 12 of the Lady Pirates’ 16 digs. Armstrong (Lomond, Alberta) and Harrison each had two digs.

Christine Edwards led UMES with 11 kills in 15 attacks. Bella Jade Romero led the way with 22 of the team’s 32 assists.
