HAMPTON, Va. –
The Hampton University volleyball team beat Coppin State in straight sets, 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-21) Friday evening in Holland Hall to pick up its third Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) win of the season.

The Lady Pirates (8-16, 3-4 MEAC) had 38 kills and 20 errors on the match, recording a team hitting percentage of .146, while holding Coppin State to a .000 hitting percentage (22 kills,22 errors, 108 attacks). Hampton trailed 15-19 at one point during the second set, but a big comeback – leading to a set team hitting percentage of .182 (14 kills, six errors, 44 attacks) – propelled the Lady Pirates to take the set 26-24.

Hampton also held a 7-1 advantage in service aces, and a 10-3 lead in total team blocks.

Mianna Armstrong (Lomond, Alberta) led the Lady Pirates with 15 kills and just three errors in 35 attacks for a .343 hitting percentage. Lina Cordoba (Bogota , Columbia), with five kills and no errors on 13 attacks, had a team-high .385 hitting percentage. Aaryn Harrison (Cary, N.C.), on top of recording seven kills, led Hampton with two service aces.

Armstrong, Cordoba, Adriana Vazquez (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico), Mika Chow (Rocky Mountain Home, Alberta) and Ivana Suput each recorded a service ace.

Chow had 33 of the Lady Pirates’ 36 assists, while Ivana Suput (Zitiste, Serbia) and Armstrong each led the team on defense with 12 digs apiece. Armstrong recorded her sixth double-double of the season, her fourth in MEAC play.
Salena Weekly led the Lady Eagles (1-26, 0-7 MEAC) with six kills, while Christina Epps had five.

The Lady Pirates will return to action on Sunday, when they play host to MEAC North-leading Maryland-Eastern Shore at 3 p.m. in Holland Hall.
