The Sports Medicine Program is qualified and responsible to work with individuals engaged in competition in the prevention of injuries/illnesses, prevention of care, and rehabilitation of injuries incurred by all athletes in Hampton University’s intercollegiate athletic teams.

The Sports Medicine staff consists of a team physician, head athletic trainer, associate athletic trainer, undergraduate student athletic trainers, consulting physicians and physical therapists.
The medical care provided to each athlete is under the supervision of the team physician and consulting specialists. The physicians provide the diagnostic help, supervision and perspective medical care.
The athletic trainers work with the advice and under the supervision of the physicians. Athletic trainers are available to administer first aid to injured athletes, administer therapeutic modalities, under the direction of a physician and supervise the rehabilitation program. The athletic trainers supervise student assistant trained in the care and treatment of athletic injuries.
The Head Athletic Trainer is the director of the Sports Medicine Program. In the absence of the Head Athletic Trainer, the Associate Athletic Trainer oversees the program. The Head Athletic Trainer reports directly to the Associate Athletic Director.
